Today I got three copies of this post about "Life is a Gift" that contained this supposed poem about a blind girl whose boyfriend donated his eyes so she could see in hopes that she would marry him..but when she could see she saw that he was blind and couldn't bear to be saddled with looking at his closed eyelids day after day, or something like that.
It ended with this prose about life being a gift and being thankful for what we have, yadda yadda yadda. You know the type: the emotional manipulation that maybe this tearjerker email will somehow change your attitude and therefore change your life. I"m sorry, but this kind of maudlin stuff just drives me bonkers. It's so far over the top in unbelievably nonsensical sentimentality that it's just plain silly. If the girl in the story hated everyone, she wouldn't have had room in her life for a boyfriend who loved her and wanted to marry her, and probably would never have attracted such a man in the first place. And it's obviously not a true story because it's unlikely that anyone could donate both their eyes to someone else like that, etc. Malarkey, balderdash, humbug and poppycock. People send this superficial fluff all over the internet as though it's something deeply significant and important. It's even more annoying than the rest of the pass it on or something bad will happen to you nonsense that is cluttering millions of inboxes around the world. I don't want to see a thousand glitter graphics that say "just because I care" and "you're my friend" and I honestly don't care what would happen if I broke the chain letter and didn't pass it on to a thousand of my closest friends and confidantes. I dont care how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, and I don't need a thousand copies of a printed prayer by who knows who to bless me and make my day a shiing success. I know, I'm a real party pooper. But I'm getting older and I don't like stuff that wastes my time in meaningless emotional drivel. I'm not picking on anybody, I know that someone thought that sharing these deeply moving and noble sentiments was an act of caring. And the fact that I get this junk from several people should make me grateful that I have friends who care so much that I have a nice day... Yeah, life is a gift...and it's also too short and too busy to waste reading junk mail and silly stuff. I don't mind the stuff that really matters and means something, but most of this stuff is JUNK.
