What on earth do they mean?
Attended a concert at a local church recently. The singer did this rousing southern gospel number that repeatedly said, “Ain’t no grave gonna hold my body down.” and she described how she looked forward to rising up to meet Jesus in the air. Her song and her comments drew applause and nods all around.
Then the pastor got up and spoke about the shortness of our lives and how any moment we could meet death and be instantly ushered into the presence of Jesus. My mind said, “huh?” Which way do they go? Do they die and go to be with the Lord? Or wait in the ground until the resurrection? Seems funny if they don’t need their bodies for however long they’re dead, it’s a silly thing to come back and get those old moldy ones out of the ground…
That’s the kind of double talk that confuses people when it comes to Scripture. People have built their faith on fables and traditions that don’t hold up when you compare scripture with scripture. God does not dwell in confusion, and He wants us to know what the truth us.
