A Bahama Cruise with Disney
Sometimes life hands you the most interesting opportunities. Last weekend was one for me. I was invited to an inaugural cruise on the Disney Fantasy as a member of TravelingMom.com. To have three days sailing to the Bahamas and back in March was too good to pass up. On Friday morning I boarded the ship and it was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Disney has tried to recreate the golden days of ocean voyaging with the new Fantasy. The art deco trimmings are everywhere, from the sweeping staircase in the main lobby (that resembles the Grand Ballroom on the movie Titanic) and the stained glass and crystal chandeliers, beautiful artwork and mosaics. It is magnificent. The ship is a curious blend of old and new, with fantastic technologies everywhere you look. There are lighting systems that change colors, “artwork” that changes and plays video clips, a massive theater where they show 3D movies and every evening you can be treated to a Broadway-caliber musical production. Each restaurant (and there are plenty) has a different theme so each time you eat you get a different dining experience. The food is awesome, and what makes the whole experience better is Disney’s concept of an all-inclusive trip. Room service, meals, activities, almost everything except for adult beverages and some special restaurants, is included. So you can relax and be treated like royalty almost every step of the way. In the next few days I will be sharing bits and pieces of the experience. Still trying to sort through the photos and videos I took.
