Stupid is as stupid does
As I scan the news headlines that hit my inbox each day, occasionally one will get my attention enough to click and read to see what it’s about. This week there were a couple that grabbed me.
Concerning the impressive NASCAR crash at Daytona Sunday that injured several fans, the driver was quoted as saying, “I don’t know if I could live with myself if I ended up in the grandstands,” Edwards said. “We’ll race like this until we kill somebody, then (NASCAR) will change it.” First off, Mr. Edwards, if you ended up in the grandstands, you probably wouldn’t be living with yourself or anyone else! But beyond that, hue and cry has gone out about the injured fans (who were stupid enough to want to stand along the fence while cars raced by them on a curve, at more than 100mph) and whether the fence designed to protect the fans from flying debris should be made higher. How about forcing fans to stay further back, away from the fence in the first place? Let’s be realistic: fans go to the races in hopes of seeing some spectacular crash. They certainly don’t go to watch fast cars go endlessly around a track until the race ends. Car crashes are the mainstay of NASCAR fans. Why some want to be up close and personal with that is stupid human nature. But expecting anything to protect everyone, particularly stupid fans with adrenaline issues, is ridiculous.
And then there was this mind-bending article, entitled “NYC Mayor Furious After Low-Flying Planes Panic Workers.”
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Monday he’s furious that the federal government flew a presidential Boeing 747 and two fighter jets near Ground Zero.
Bloomberg said the flyover so close to the World Trade Center site showed “poor judgment” and was insensitive, adding that he’s furious that the NYPD and another city agency were notified last week, but didn’t tell him.
It is unthinkable that in this post-911 world where everything has to be checked and rechecked and redtaped into oblivion that our own White House staff would not notify the proper authorities that they would be doing this. They put in a financial officer who can’t do his taxes and a staff that can’t follow common protocol and courtesy. They try to send four or five pro-abortion people to the Vatican as ambassadors. They give billions of dollars to bail out banks and insurance companies with NO accountability or plan for how the funds were to be used. How much more stupidity can this country survive?
