Don’t give up

wedding-cake

Yesterday was our anniversary. Thirty-eight years of marriage. Seems impossible that it’s been so many years, but the calendar doesn’t lie (and neither does the mirror!). By the standards of my generation, we are a mystery, an anomaly. Some would say we’re the “lucky ones” but we know luck had nothing to do with it.

Watching my junk mail change

Watching my junk mail change

I guess our credit rating must be rising, judging from all the credit card acceptance pitches we are getting every week. It keeps our shredder busy, but the chickens like using the shredded paper for their bedding. I haven’t actually checked our rating, I just assume since banks want me to take their credit cards […]

Do we dare to hope it’s spring?

sun-w-sunglasses

Oh, the joys of sunshine and warm temperatures! After all these dreary, overcast and downright COLD months, to have bright sunlight is such a treat! Some of us thought spring would never get here, and we’d be subjected to endless newscasts about mass burials of robins and spring peepers who froze in the freak snowstorms […]

Lyme marches on…

questions

I’ve been trying some new therapies in my battle with lyme disease, as well as digging into some research published online. I am so eager to feel “normal” again, to have my mobility back. To be able to climb the stairs without struggling. I can live with the tendonitis pain, but it’s the muscle issues […]

Ripples: My Approach to Life

Ripples: My Approach to Life

I’ve become accustomed over the years to being at odds with life. It’s not something that happened to me all at once, but rather gradually as I was introduced to new ways of thinking. Each wave of “new thinking” was explored and considered, and led me to another wave. All the waves were related to […]

Blurring the lines

Blurring the lines

I don’t read as much as I used to. Growing up, I was a bookworm. I read encyclopedias for fun! I was always reading, and the ladies at the public library knew me by name. My mother used to give me grief for always having my nose in a book. But I can’t tell you […]

Why I Don’t Make Resolutions

Why I Don’t Make Resolutions

Someone called and asked what I was doing to ring in the new year tonight. “Going to bed early!” was my response. Despite staying up to “watch the ball drop” over several New Year’s Eves, I have never enjoyed the hoopla. That stuff just bores me. And now that my kids are grown, I enjoy […]

The Holiday Blues?

The Holiday Blues?

So many people battle with depression between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The holiday blues often push people over the edge. Whether it’s the financial crunch of feeling pressured to buy, buy, buy during the holidays, or nostalgia from holidays past, or just the fatigue of the hustle and bustle, it seems to touch everyone. But I […]

In Retrospect…

This is the time when everyone seems to be doing a look back over the events of the almost-past year, recapping the highlights. I have a really tough time doing this! I am just not wired for remembering the past with any great detail. I tend to live in the present and anticipate the future, […]

For Sale…Reduced.

For Sale…Reduced.

In my younger days when CB radio was in vogue, my handle was “Pennypincher.” I love being thrifty.  Just as men like game hunting, I love bargain hunting. The key with anything you want is being willing to wait for it. If you have to have it right now, you will probably pay top dollar […]

Seasons Change and So Does Spam

Seasons Change and So Does Spam

From the mailbag this morning. Got this laughable spam from someone with an apparently poor grasp of English: “When emergency appears you always thank your wisdom and clear mind that make you spare smackers for rainy days. Having a solid amount of smackers in your account or several wads of smackers in the distant corner […]

Autumn Sliding In…

Autumn Sliding In…

I love spring and fall, the two moderate seasons. This week’s weather change with the drier air and clearer skies (unless you count the chemtrails) is so refreshing. Just makes you feel like moving and doing things, unlike summer and winter that make you feel like sitting still. This has been a very odd summer, […]
