Three months into our home church experience and counting. Our little group ebbs and flows, between 15 and 20 people. We have all age groups, and it really feels like “family” when we get together. For the first time in decades we eagerly look forward to the weekend and our meetings.
I know the media is freaking out over Ebola being diagnosed in the US, but we really need some clearer heads to prevail. Yes, Ebola is a terrible disease. But so are cancer and AIDS and ALS. Look at the chart above. If I told you there was a 0.02% chance of rain tomorrow, would […]
It’s been about six weeks now since we left our local church and began meeting at home. You would think that we would be having a lot of adjustment issues to the sudden change in things we’ve done every week for more than 40 years. But the truth is exactly the opposite. We couldn’t be […]
In keeping with the theme I started some time ago about ripples in our lives, I thought I would share the latest “wave.” We have begun what some call “simple church” which really means church in our home. After 40+ years of leadership in a traditional church setting, we are testing the waters with a […]
From the I Needed A Laugh department. This afternoon I got a spam e-mail that looked very official, from “Chamberlain College of Nursing” that spelled the college name as Chamerblain in the “from” line. Yeah, that’s the kind of educational institution I want to work with… If they can’t teach English, spelling, or accuracy, would […]
Three weeks ago I rolled my Ford Explorer not far from home. Thankfully we were all wearing seat belts and nobody was seriously injured. Four of us walked away from the wreckage bruised and sore, but alive. We are grateful to guardian angels and seat belts. My biggest injury was a wrist fracture. At the […]
Yesterday was our anniversary. Thirty-eight years of marriage. Seems impossible that it’s been so many years, but the calendar doesn’t lie (and neither does the mirror!). By the standards of my generation, we are a mystery, an anomaly. Some would say we’re the “lucky ones” but we know luck had nothing to do with it.
I guess our credit rating must be rising, judging from all the credit card acceptance pitches we are getting every week. It keeps our shredder busy, but the chickens like using the shredded paper for their bedding. I haven’t actually checked our rating, I just assume since banks want me to take their credit cards […]
Oh, the joys of sunshine and warm temperatures! After all these dreary, overcast and downright COLD months, to have bright sunlight is such a treat! Some of us thought spring would never get here, and we’d be subjected to endless newscasts about mass burials of robins and spring peepers who froze in the freak snowstorms […]
I’ve been trying some new therapies in my battle with lyme disease, as well as digging into some research published online. I am so eager to feel “normal” again, to have my mobility back. To be able to climb the stairs without struggling. I can live with the tendonitis pain, but it’s the muscle issues […]
I’ve become accustomed over the years to being at odds with life. It’s not something that happened to me all at once, but rather gradually as I was introduced to new ways of thinking. Each wave of “new thinking” was explored and considered, and led me to another wave. All the waves were related to […]
