This is my time to hibernate. When it gets cold and these aging joints let me know I’ve been creaking around on them pretty hard, it’s so easy just to stay indoors and enjoy the heat.
The cats let me know they like the warmth as well, standing on the windowsill with one paw raised as if they are waving to get my attention. Ricochet will come to my office window under the bird feeder and look at me and meow until she sees me get up and go to the front door to let her in.
It’s funny how these pets have learned to communicate wordlessly. One will go to the door and look at me and back at the door when she wants to go out. She’ll sit on the floor watching me eat, staring at my bowl, and I know she’s just waiting for me to finish so she can check out what I was eating and see if it’s tasty. I’ve learned that it’s useless to completely close the bathroom door, because I’ll just have to get up and open it again in a few seconds. Otherwise there will be this silver paw snaking under the door, and a very faint meow to let me know she wants in. She’ll hop on the sink and wait for me to turn the faucet on ever so little so she can drink from the trickle that comes out. Yeah, I’m hooked. She "owns" me. And even with her warm coat of fur, she doesn’t like to be outside on those days when it gets below twenty degrees. Smart kitty!
